Jefferson City, MO – Legislation headed to Governor Holden's desk would ban local governments in Missouri from suing gun manufacturers.
The measure was prompted by a lawsuit filed three years ago by St. Louis against gun makers. That suit is pending in federal court. It seeks millions of dollars spent on dealing with gun violence. If Holden signs the measure into law, that lawsuit would end.
It also would place into state law support for the lawful design, marketing, manufacture, distribution or sale of firearms or ammunition.
Meanwhile, a well-known gun control advocate wants Governor Holden to veto concealed weapons legislation on his desk. Sarah Brady has written to Holden about the measure that would allow people who meet certain criteria to carry concealed guns.
Brady's husband James was President Reagan's press secretary until he was shot during the attempt on Reagan's life. Sarah Brady calls the measure dangerous and reckless. A veto on that measure is expected from Holden.
