Edwardsville, Ill. – The debate over whether Philip Morris should pay more than $6 billion dollars to appeal an unfavorable court ruling continues Friday.
Plaintiffs lawyer Stephen Tillery won a $10 billion judgment against the company when a Madison County judge ruled that its marketing of "light" cigarettes was misleading.
The cigarette maker is appealing the verdict, but was ordered on April 14th to first put up a $6 billion bond.
Tillery is now trying to persuade Madison County Judge Nicholas Byron to increase that bond. Philip Morris attorney Bill Ohlemeyer says the company wants the April 14th bond order to stand unaltered.
