Clayton, Mo. – The St. Louis County Council Tuesday passed a resolution in support of a new cement plant proposed for St. Genevieve County. The site for the plant is just across the border from Jefferson County.
Environmentalists say the project by Holcim would mean significant air and water pollution, as well as the lost of hundreds of acres of forest.
The County Council, though, praised the jobs such a project would create; including 400 construction jobs and 200 full time positions at the plant. Holcim still needs some permits before construction can start.
