Chicago, Ill. – Illinois Senator Peter Fitzgerald will not run for re-election next year. That's according to the Chicago Tribune, which says Fitzgerald told friends he was concerned about the lack of support from fellow Republicans for his more independent views.
The Republican from Inverness also reportedly cited concerns about the cost of running for reelection. Hewas elected in 1998, after spending more than $13 million of his own money to finance the campaign.
