Tamaroa, Ill. – The Canadian National-Illinois Central freight train company has paid more than $446,000 to residents and businesses in Tamaroa.

The money went to those in the small southern Illinois town who were evacuated for several days in February when a train carrying hazardous materials derailed there.

A spokesman for the train company says more than 1,100 residents have received about $330,000, while the remaining $117,000 has gone to 74 businesses.
