Springfield, Ill. – Health officials are investigating whether four Illinoisans have contracted a deadly flu-like disease that has spread across the world. Two of the possible cases are in the central Illinois county of McLean. The other two are in Chicago.
All four have recently traveled to Asia, where most of the cases have been reported. The unidentified disease can cause death from respiratory failure.
Victims typically develop coughs, pneumonia, shortness of breath and other breathing difficulties.
State health spokeswoman Jena Welliever says the four people are resting at home.
