Jefferson City, Mo. – Republican leaders in Jefferson City say state can save $60 million a year by doing a more efficient job of collecting taxes.
The $60 million proposal is a counter-offer to a $700 million proposal Governor Bob Holden has for raising money. Holden wants to bring in more revenue by closing some corporate tax loopholes. But Republicans call that bad for business.
The state is facing a $1 billion budget shortfall for the fiscal year that starts July First.
