Jefferson City, MO – A group that lobbies for Missouri Counties plans to sue Governor Bob Holden over budget cuts it says violate state law.
The Missouri Association of Counties says lawmakers violated the Hancock Amendment last year when they cut about $2 millionfrom the money paid to county assessors, as well as several million more for reimbursing the cost of housing inmates.
The Hancock Amendment prohibits a reduction in the state-financed portion of costs for any existing or required county services. The group wants the cuts stopped.
