Springfield, MO – Dozens of parents and grandparents told Missouri lawmakers the state's foster care program is destroying families.
Their comments were part of a hearing in Springfield before a Senate committee reviewing the system; it went past midnight.
The committee is to make recommendations to improve the state's foster care laws. Parents told of times when they were falsely accused of abuse and offered little due process before their children were taken from their homes. Many also said juvenile court judges have too much power in terminating parental rights.
