The Center for Theoretical and Computational Neuroscience at WashU is delighted to present its inaugural annual public lecture on Minds and Machines. In this lecture, a leading researcher working at the interface of neuroscience and artificial intelligence will present their perspective on the most exciting recent developments and what the future holds. On May 17, 2024, Terrence Sejnowski presents "Brains and AI." He is a professor at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and was awarded the 2024 Brain Prize. Prof Sejnowski is a pioneering figure in computational neuroscience, recognized for his extensive contributions to both understanding the brain and advancing the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

The Field House Museum is pleased to announce its inaugural Poetry in the Garden competition series, held over four dates from May to July in the museum’s garden in downtown St. Louis.
This competition aims to honor the legacy of 19th-century poet Eugene Field by inviting local poets to create and perform their own works inspired by some of the themes he returned to again and again over the course of his career – love, food & drink, nature, and current events.

Join Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum’s Green Burial expert, Gracie Griffin, as she provides a closer look at green burial practices, dispels myths, and explores some exciting and fascinating options available throughout the world.
You will learn about the range of “green” funeral and cemetery options available today, like being “planted” in a meadow, what one can expect when choosing a green service, and the environmental benefits of green burial as compared to cremation and traditional burial.
This 1.5 hour presentation with a Q&A to follow will be held in Hotchkiss Chapel at Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum. Enter the main gates (main entrance) of the Cemetery at 4947 W. Florissant Ave. then follow the signs to the Hotchkiss Chapel.

AUTHOR TALK & PRIVATE TOUR: STEPHEN P. WALKER and the LEMP MAUSOLEUMBellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum welcomes author Stephen P. Walker on Saturday, June 1, 2024.
Stephen will discuss the history of the Lemp family of St. Louis, including their once vast brewing empire, their tragic family history, and the elegant mansion they left behind. Stephen’s book was the first ever written on the Lemps, and this year marks its 35th year in publication. Stephen will be available for a question and answer session and book signing following his presentation. Afterward, one of Bellefontaine Cemetery’s master guides will take attendees on a tour of the Lemp family mausoleum.
This author talk will be held at the Historic Hotchkiss Chapel inside Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum. Once you arrive at Bellefontaine Cemetery at 4947 W. Florissant, please follow the directional signage to Hotchkiss Chapel. Following the author talk, the private tour will happen at the Lemp family mausoleum.

About the Program:
The Field House Museum is pleased to welcome back Jim Merkel, author of Walking South City: A Journey Through Historic St. Louis Neighborhoods, on Friday, June 14 at 1:00 pm.
In the wake of COVID-19, Merkel set out on a walk that would take him block-by-block through the tales of history and community in South City. From it came this book, a love letter to the people and places that call South City home.
