This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon, July 24, 2012 - The St. Louis Arches, a youth circus troupe, is once again flying alongside Galilee Circus, an Jewish-Arab youth troupe, thanks to Circus Harmony, a nonprofit organization that raised enough money for the troupe to travel from Israel -- nearly 6,500 miles from St. Louis.
Galilee Circus arrived July 22 and will perform with the St. Louis Arches through Aug. 5 at various locations such as the City Museum and the YMCA Trout Lodge, according to Circus Harmony's press release.
The two circus troupes have been working together since 2007. This two-week series of performances is part of a Circus Harmony's larger "Peace Through Pyramids" project.
The Arches is a youth circus troupe with children ranging from 12 to 20 from neighborhoods throughout the St. Louis area. The collaboration between the group and the Galilee Circus showcases exactly what Circus Harmony is about: "bringing people of different nationalities and backgrounds together" because of what they share in common instead of the little things that set them apart, according to the press release.
